2025
Presented my first Hulusi workshop at Huayi Festival 2025
Joined Kheng Cheng School's Chinese Orchestra as Conductor and Dizi instructor
2024
Launched WJ website using Google Sites on 1 February 2024.
My first performance with Hear You Later at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage.
Mr Seah Kar Wee (my first Dizi teacher and conductor) passed away on 6 April.

2023
Appointed Conductor at Jurong Green CC Chinese Orchestra
Conducted Hear You Later's first Beautiful Sunday concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall.
2022
Started teaching the wind section at Ngee Ann Polytechnic CO.
2021
Appointed Assistant Conductor at River Valley High School CO.
2020
Overture to COVID-19.
Joined The Purple Symphony (TPS) as winds instructor.
Founded 民樂幾時有 Hear You Later, and produced its first digital concert entitled "Hear You Later" with the support of NAC and some very good friends. (link to video: Click here)
2019
Produced, scripted, and composed original music for Esplanade's Octoburst! festival, "What if Zhenghe met Sang Nila Utama?"
Enrolled to the Masters of Education programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
2018
Appointed Conductor, winds and percussion instructor at NUS High School CO. SYF distinction for years 2019 and 2021.
2017
Conducted my first "Student Conductor Workshop" at River Valley High School CO.
Commissioned by NTU Chinese Orchestra to arrange a medley for Thong Chai Charity Show's programme, performed by FM97.2 deejays.
The first Dizi section instructor at Eunoia JC CO. Became best friends with Chelsea and Ryan.
2013
Accepted to NTU as the pioneer batch of Public Policy and Global Affairs students.
Began conducting Boon Lay Secondary School's Chinese Orchestra - clinched the CO's first distinction award in SYF 2019.
Conducted my first "Beautiful Sunday" concert at the Esplanade concert hall with Pioneer Chinese Orchestra.
2012
Carrotmusic is incorporated as a business entity.
Appointed Chairperson of Pioneer Community Arts and Culture Committee.
2011
Witnessed the closing of West Coast CC Chinese Orchestra and the establishment of Ayer Rajah CC Chinese Orchestra, one-month apart.
2010
Woke up my ideas and went to Republic Polytechnic to study Supply Chain Management.
Took up a diploma in Songwriting and Production offered by School of Music and the Arts (SOMA).
Attained 'Qualified Trainer' status with People's Association.
2009
Attained Dizi Grade 8 certification - presented by Mr Tan Chye Tiong.
Completed full-time national service.
2008
Mr Wu Xiao Zhong passed away on 9 January.
Founded Pioneer Chinese Orchestra (PCO) with the kind support of Ms Doris Ho, Mr Cedric Foo, Mr Yeong Wai Teck, and Mr Nicholas Lee.
2007
Reported for National Service on my mother's birthday. Reached age of reason and became less patriotic.
2006
Posted to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and did one semester of Nursing.
Performed Guanzi and Zhonyin Suona with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra as "guest musician" and "contract musician" in several concerts.
Visited Xi'an Conservatory of Music to study Guanzi and conducting with Mr Wu Xiao Zhong.
2005
Represented SYCO at the 2005 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp with the company of Wang Chenwei, Ryan Sim, Lur Khim Tiam, Chow Pei Qian, and Teo Bee Lan.
(Note: Zhang Lie is a really amazing conductor)
Become acquainted with Mr Tan Chye Tiong, started individual lessons.
2004
Joins Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra (SYCO).
*paid $60 membership fee, subsequently removed but never got a refund.
2003
Began studying at Boon Lay Secondary School.
Joins CO again. Learned to play Suona, then Guanzi with Mr Wu Xiao Zhong.
2001
Participated in my second SYF competition. I cannot remember what songs we performed. Ha!
2000
Family moved to Jurong West Street 64.
Continued primary education at Boon Lay Garden Primary School.
Joins CO to meet my 2nd teacher, Mr Ng Teck Seng.
1999
Participated in my first Singapore Youth Festival Competition (SYF).
*Held at Nanyang Girls' High School auditorium.
We performed《风筝乐》and《高山青》.
1998
Joins Chinese Orchestra CCA - chose Erhu but got assigned to Dizi.
My first teacher was Mr Seah Kar Wee.
1997
Started compulsory education at Keming Primary School.
1996
Completed kindergarten education and performed an Indian Dance item at the graduation ceremony.
1989
Born to working class parents living in Bukit Batok Avenue 6 Singapore 2365.
